Recently these three signed photographs reached my doorstep. Collecting autographs is something completely different from, let’s say, cds or vinyl. First of all, most people want proof of the authenticity of a signed copy. A ‘live’ picture of the signing by the artist or a certificate from an auction house supports the value, so it will also support a sale or trade. Secondly, it matters which item is signed. Some might only buy signed records while others will hunt for stuff that fits in a frame, like photographs. I have a signed t-shirt by Steve Hackett which I don’t care for. The problem is I just don’t know where to put it and I’m not gonna wear it either. The three photos above came with a certificate so I guess my investment is secure.
I also found an instore promo of ‘We Can’t Dance’ signed by Mike on eBay for a fair price. No certificate accompanied this one, but the autograph unmistakably is Mike’s. It’s just another add to my collection and I’m very well pleased with it. I’ve made a page with all my signed Genesis items. You may find it here.
