Speculations ran high when the rumour was out that Peter Gabriel would attend the final Genesis show at London’s O2 last month. Would Gabriel finally reunite with the band? Was he going to sing? As we know now Gabriel attended the show as an old friend and he met the guys backstage afterwards. He did not appear on stage for the encores; it left lots of fans unsatisfied and disappointed. Let’s face it, it was just too good to be true! Gabriel left Genesis 47 years ago and never really aspired to perform with the band again, apart from the Six Of The Best Concert in ’82, the benefit for Womad. I recently got my hands on the Melody Maker down below from 1975. The genie was out of the bottle; Gabriel was leaving Genesis at the peak of their career. The magazine is a real treasure to me. I like the fact that it was featured on the Genesis Songbook Documentary from 2001.
